Central Bali Heading northward towards Ubud, the physical and cultural heart of Bali, is an
array of arts and crafts centers specializing in stone carving (Batu Bulan), jewelry
(Celuk), and woodcarving (Mas). Further North is Tampaksiring, a town famous for
its 11th century rock-cut shrines at Gunung Kawi, and the holy springs next to
Pura Tirta Empul - one of Bali's most important temples. Just East of Ubud is
Pura Penataran Sasih, a temple housing the two millenia-old moon of Pejeng, among
the world's largest bronze-aged drums.
